last day...

May 21st was Luke's last day of Kindergarten with Mrs Paronto and Aaron's last day of daycare at Tot's N Tikes with Miss. Mindy, Miss Liz and Miss Dersire.  Luke had a fantastic year at school and learned so much.  He loved his teacher and when we went to get her a teacher appreciation gift he wanted to get her the biggest flower possible.  When he showed me which one he wanted it was actually a small flowering tree!  (I got him to go for something a bit smaller, a beautiful begonia).  He has learned how to read this year which was a struggle but he is so proud of himself when he reads hard words and he is getting better and better at sounding things out.  He did a lot of fun art that actually turned out really cool (they must have a really great art teacher because he brought home stuff that made me want to go buy frames, either that or I am just one proud mommy  :-).  He made some really good friends and through his new friends I have enjoyed getting to know a few of their mommies too!  I think he has even grown about 6 inches, at least it looks that way!

........................

Aaron has been at Tots N Tikes for one year now starting off in the toddler room and moving up to the preschool room last September.  He took his time warming up and while he was pretty happy there from the start I later learned that he refused to talk until he got into the preschool room!  Until then they had been trying everything to get him to say something, anything, even using baby signs which he knew from home as well.  He would just smile and nod and blink his eyes at them, little turkey.  I don't know why he wouldn't talk for them or what made him start talking, but Miss Desire gave me regular updates when I would go to pick him up.  The first day he refused to do art and gave her a very firm no!  The next week he participated in art and started talking (in a very quiet voice :-).  The week after that she said she couldn't believe how much he was talking, and the week after that he was not only talking all the time but getting into mischief!  She said he colored with crayons on the mirror in the bathroom and then came and took her by the hand to show her what he had done!

Like Luke Aaron has also learned and grown so much.  He can now count past 20 and is starting to be able to recognize various letters.  more and more he is playing with other kids instead of along side them which makes it more fun for Luke to play with him too.  I am so appreciative of his teachers and how much they love him.  Miss Desire is always there when I pick him up and she always has something exciting to tell me about Aaron's day!  They were even able to get Aaron to sit on the potty long before he would do it for me and on his last day Miss Desire said she thought he actually went a little bit!  Every night after he had been there his happy was going to daycare, and that warms a mother's heart.

Tots N Tikes closed that week because the Director, Julie Yoder became the new Director at Asbury Station, a daycare connected to a nursing home.  Aaron had his first day there this week and while he wasn't too sure about staying when we dropped him off he had a good day and his happy that night was again daycare!  We had hoped that his old teachers would choose to go to Asbury too but that didn't end up happening, at least not yet.  His new teacher's name is Miss Casey and so far it seems like a good fit.  His old teachers gave Aaron a book as a goodbye present and wrote him little notes.  We will really miss them!
